Muriel Kerr
Teaching Artist, Muriel Kerr, has performed with string ensembles worldwide at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center (now David Geffen Hall), Steinway Hall Gallery, The National Theatre and Concert Hall in Taipei, Saga City Cultural Hall in Japan, Merkin Hall (New York City), Symphony Space (NYC), The Historic CBGB's, Middle East Down Stairs (Boston), Powell Symphony Hall (St. Louis), Chicago Symphony Hall, Uncommon Ground (Chicago) among other wonderful venues.
She holds a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Music Performance as a full merit scholar from Mannes College of Music and a merit scholar from Northwestern University respectively. She has performed in the cello sections of Fort Worth Symphony, Chicago Symphony's Civic Orchestra, Burlington Vermont's former professional string ensemble ME2/strings, Orchestra of Northern New York, Glens Falls Symphony, Garland Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Arlington, Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and World Civic Orchestra.
Muriel has recorded with Grammy nominated Relax Your Ears. She has also recorded with Team Tomato, George Vala, American Music Theatre Project and The Dent. She has performed in Master Classes for The Eroica Trio, The Orion Quartet, The Elements Quartet, Colin Carr, Arnold Steinhardt, Ronald Leonard, Eleonora Schoenfeld, Truls Mork and Janos Starker. Muriel has performed under the Baton of JoAnn Faletta, James DePreist, Kurt Masur, Leonard Slatkin and Bernard Haitink.
Muriel has a passion for teaching as well as performing. She has extensive Suzuki Method Talent Education training under Dr. Tanya L. Carey, along with notable Suzuki Method Trainers Alice Vierra and Shu-Yi Scott. Muriel has observed Suzuki Method Master Lessons in Matsumoto Japan at the Dr. Shinichi Suzuki Talent Education Research Institute and at various stateside Suzuki Summer Institutions. Muriel has taught cello privately for over 25 years and through public school systems for just over a decade. Muriel has served as a clinician for McKenzie’s Fiddle & Suzuki Workshop and Co-Directed the Greenville Suzuki Workshop where she was the Cello Instructor for Greenville Independent School District’s Suzuki Strings Program for 7 years. For the past 3 years, Muriel was an administration manager for the world renowned Meadowmount School of Music in Westport, NY. She stepped away from her administrative role in order to devote her time to public school music education, the North Country music community, and her family.
Her local community inspired the formation of a performance and talent education organization in order to continue the growth of local appreciation towards music performance and music talent education.
As founder and Director of Adirondack Music Ensembles, Muriel strives to provide performance opportunities to local musicians and students to help strengthen the appreciation of music both locally and throughout surrounding communities.
